Stages to become a foster parent

  1. Stage 1: Initial phone contact: A team member of CFFA will take basic details from you when you give a call and will let you know if you can foster.

  2. Stage 2: Initial home visit:One of our team members will visit your family home to assess if you and your home is suitable for fostering.

  3. Stage 3: Application to foster:you can now complete your application to foster and give consent for all checks to be carried out. Some of the checks would be a health check, DBS – Disclosure and Barring Service, Local Authority check etc.

  4. Stage 4: Skills to foster training:you will have to attend the skills to foster training where you can assess yourself if you are the right person to foster and at the same time CFFA will assess your suitability to foster

  5. Stage 5: Checks Stage:Once you feel confident that you can foster a child and then we will further proceed with all the checks

  6. Stage 6: Assessment to foster:After we receive all your checks, we will allocate an assessor who will complete an assessment form which in in-depth

  7. Stage 7: Panel and approval Stage:you will now be invited to attend the Independent fostering panel along with your assessor and a recommendation will be made by the panel. Further the Decision maker of CFFA will make the final decision. This could be your approval or non-approval.

  8. Stage 8:  1st child placement:Once you are approved, your profile will be prepared by CFFA and you are ready to receive your first child placement. CFFA will match the child according to the child’s needs with the services you can provide.
